Book Your Appointment
We offer scheduling online or speaking directly with our staff over the phone.
Share Your Insurance Information
If you call, our staff will ask for contact and heath insurance information, so please have it handy when you call.
NOTE: We are glad to provide information regarding out of pocket “patient responsibility” (deductible, coinsurance, etc) for a visit and/or testing at the level of detail provided by your health plan's provider portal. That information is generally very detailed for typical PPO plans provided by Aetna, Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of California, Blue Cross Blue Shield from other states, United Health. Smaller plans often have less information available online.
Fill Out Your Forms
After you schedule an appointment, you will receive Online medical intake forms for ease of completion and submission.
In the Days Before Your First Appointment
Antihistamines and related medications may interfere with allergy skin testing. If you would like to have the option for environmental/airborne, food, penicillin, or other skin testing at your visit, you would need to avoid taking antihistamines for the amount of time indicated below.
(The time periods below can usually be shortened by 1-2 days, if needed, for patients who are under 60 and otherwise healthy and likely to metabolize medications more quickly. In addition, Dr. Feigenbaum performs a positive and negative "control" to ensure that the allergy testing is working as expected.)
Claritin (Alavert, Loratadine) - 5 days
Allegra (Fexofenadine) - 5 days
Zyrtec (Cetirizine) - 5 days
Xyzal (Levocetirizine) - 5 days
Benadryl and other over-the-counter meds, except those above - 3 days
Dymista, Astelin, Astepro (Azelastine), and Patanase Nasal Sprays - 2 days
Famotidine, Zantac, Pepcid - 2 days For these 3 drugs, if prescribed by another physician, we recommend checking with them first before stopping.
OTC sleep aids often contain antihistamines. Please check the label and let us know if you need our help with this. There is no need to stop nasal steroid sprays such as Flonase, Nasacort, or Rhinocort. (But please bring them with you, so we can go over optimal nasal spray technique.)
If you have questions about which medications interfere with testing, please just call us!
Cancellations
Your time is important to us. Likewise, if you are unable to keep your appointment with us for any reason, we appreciate as much advanced notice as possible. If you miss an appointment or cancel/reschedule with less than 48 hours’ notice, a Late Cancellation fee of $50 may be charged to you (not covered by insurance).
The Day of Your First Appointment
Please bring:
Your insurance card and photo ID with you
A form of payment for your co-pay or other “Patient Responsibility” (deductible, coinsurance, etc) indicated by your health plan
Any medical records you would like reviewed as part of your visit. (You can also upload medical records as part of the online intake form process.)
What Will Happen at My First Appointment
First, we will welcome you to the office!
Our Staff will:
Confirm the information we need to keep on file – including contact and insurance information
Review your completed new patient forms
Process your co-pay or other “Patient Responsibility” indicated by your health plan.
Then a member of our medical team will take your vital signs, review any past medical history, drug allergies and current medications and collect additional information.
Dr. Feigenbaum will review your history and symptoms and make a preliminary diagnosis. He may recommend appropriate testing. Some tests, such as skin testing, are conducted in our office.
Dr. Feigenbaum will take the time to review your results, educate you on steps you can take to decrease or avoid exposure to your allergic triggers, and treat your symptoms. We will discuss recommendations with you and, where possible, provide written information for you to take home.
The frequency of your return visits to us will be determined based upon the severity and complexity of the diagnosis and need to monitor response to medications.
Your Patient Portal
Following your first appointment with us, you will be given access to a Patient Portal that will allow you to access some medical information, request refills or send non-urgent questions, and much more, from wherever you are.
We look forward to meeting you!
